Who Took the Center Stage from the PV Modules?– A Quiet "Booth Migration" Observed Over Four Editions of Intersolar Europe

Intersolar Europe 2026 was held in Munich, Germany, from June 23 to 25.

 

A few years ago, stepping into Intersolar Europe, you could instantly spot the centerpiece of each booth.

 

A PV module was always placed in the most prominent position, accompanied by its power rating, efficiency, and technology roadmap. Visitors moved from booth to booth, comparing a series of continuously updated figures.

 

Today in Munich, PV modules remain ubiquitous, but they no longer stand alone at the center of the stage.

 

Energy storage systems, charging infrastructure, energy management platforms, and smart grids are now being integrated into the same scenario. In the past, the booth demonstrated how much electricity a single PV module could generate; today, more and more companies are explaining how that electricity can be stored, dispatched, and ultimately consumed at specific times and locations.

 

 

Behind this "booth migration" lies the new challenge facing Europe's photovoltaic  market.

 

As installed photovoltaic capacity continue to surge, an increasing amount of clean power is being injected into the grid during daylight hours. How to improve grid absorption capacity and balance power generation with consumption is becoming the industry's new focal point.

 

Solar irradiance is abundant, but whether that power can be utilized at the time and place it is needed still depends on the synergy between storage, scheduling, and end-use scenarios.

 

Consequently, the industry's focus has begun to shift from "how to capture more energy fom sunlight" to "storing midday solar power for nighttime use," ensuring it better serves factories, vehicles, and households.

 

 

The industry's focus has evolved from higher power output and efficiency in 2023, to digitalization and solar-plus-storage synergy, and today, to comprehensive solutions for all-weather energy supply.

 

What has truly stepped back is not the PV module itself, but the era when a single product and a set of specifications were enough to tell the entire solar story.

 

The centerpiece of the exhibition booth may change, but the bottom-line standards of manufacturing cannot be compromised.

 

With a PV system required to run outdoors for two to three decades, what matters most ultimately comes down to materials, craftsmanship, accuracy, quality, and on-time delivery. The faster the industry evolves, the more solid the foundational work needs to be.

 

Such transformation deserves recognition, and steadfastness deserves equal attention.  This is not a constraint on PV development, but an inevitable phase for the photovoltaic industry to transition from scale-driven expansion to high-quality growth.
